The Baroque Concerto

vivaldiA new lesson opens today "The Baroque Concerto", as part of our exploration of the Baroque era.

In it we take a look a the difference between the solo concerto, and the concerto grosso. Our example of this form is Vivaldi's Spring (La Primavera) from the Four Seasons, with a remarkable  performance by Julia Fischer

We are pleased to announce the opening of the first of four lessons covering the Baroque Era (1600-1750) in the History 1 program: Social Climate & Musical Concepts.

In this lesson we look at the ideas that characterize the Baroque era in music.

orchestraThe first lesson to the History 1 course: Getting Started: Basic Terms & Musical Instruments is now open.

In this lesson we cover some essential musical terminology, and group musical instruments into score order.  I hope that you will find learning the musical instruments is an intuitive and useful way to remembering the instruments of the orchestra.

 

We will also learn the instrumentation for several common chamber ensembles.
